Explain the basic: Divination tool
Desclaimer: Everything I will talk about is information that I got from books and sites online and even videos on YouTube. In my years of practice, I learned as much as I could out of curiosity and what works best for me. I suggest you do the same by learning as much as you can on your own (I will be here making posts teaching this kind of stuff) from multiple sources.
As always, I will love to hear your thoughts! and if you have any questions, I will be more than happy to answer them! If you liked it, leave a comment or reblog (that is always appreciated!). If you are interested in more methods, check the masterlist!
As a divination witch, I obviously work a lot with the divine, and what I'm about to say are just a few of the things you may use or perform in this type of witchcraft work.
A word of caution, though: I've worked with divine magic for a long time; don't get into it unless you know what you're doing, and especially not without defending yourself. In this list, I will clearly explain what each item does and how it works, and some of this is for a more "advanced" sort of witchcraft.
In witchcraft, there are numerous divination tools practitioners use to gain insight into the past, present, or future or to communicate with spiritual entities. I personally believe that it is the tool that chooses you, not you choosing the tool. Here are some common ones:
Tarot Cards:
A deck of 78 cards with various symbols and images that are interpreted in readings to gain insight into a question or situation. These 78 cards are divided into major arcana and minor arcana. The major arcana may change with the deck that you choose, but the main symbolism is the same, and sometimes you will find decks that have more than just 78 cards.
Runes:
A rune is a letter in a set of related alphabets known as runic alphabets native to the Germanic peoples. The runes are an ancient method of divination used even before medieval times. Runes can be made of stone, wood, or other materials, and each symbol has its own meaning. You can easily make your own runes.
Crystal Ball Scrying/Scrying Mirror:
This requires gazing into a crystal ball or other reflective surface, such as a mirror, to obtain visions or insights. You do it by just looking at the shiny surface in low light, with nothing to distract you. Your vision will "blur," allowing you to experience visions or gain insights. There is a good reason why this happens. It's essentially our brain getting tired of our reflection and starting to make up new stories, but it's not all psychology since, as we all know, mirrors are gateways. So it is advised not to try this method unless you are an experienced witch or just lack protection, as you may invite something you do not want to invite.
Pendulum Divination:
A pendulum, often a crystal or metal weight on a chain, is used to answer yes-or-no questions or to indicate directions or choices. The pendalum moves on its own, and before you start actually using it, I suggest you ask the pendalum which direction is yes and which is no. Much like the Ouija board, this object can be used to talk to spirits and ghosts, so be careful to always say thanks and say goodbye once you finish a session, even if it is not the primary use. Better safe than sorry.
Tea Leaf Reading:
Interpretation of patterns formed by tea leaves at the bottom of a cup after drinking. Practitioners see symbols and images in the leaves and use them for divination. that's it. that's the tea.
Astrology:
Reading and interpreting the positions and movements of celestial bodies to gain insight into personality traits, events, and relationships. that can be the oroscope, your birth chart etc.
Ouija Board:
A flat board marked with the letters of the alphabet, numbers, and other symbols. Participants use a planchette to spell out messages supposedly from spirits or other supernatural entities. This is one of those tools that you don't have to play around with. It is not a game you can literally get into if you are not careful enough. The way that the Ouija board works is that you place your finger on the planchette; if you don't have a planchette, a metal ring will do just fine. Once you position it, you say, "Hello, im --- and i here to talk to only benevolent spirits, and only benevolent spirits can come true and talk to me." Once this part is done, it is NOT THE PLANCHETTE THAT MOVES YOU MOVE THE PLANCHETTE Hollywood lies to you; what a surprise! Once you are done chit-chatting with the spirits, make sure the spirits say goodbye. Say your goodbye, and once you are done, close the space and banish everything "bad" that may have come true. Again, better safe than sorry.
Numerology:
The study of the mystical significance of numbers and their influence on human life and events. a good example will be angel numbers like 444 or 555
Dream Interpretation:
Analyzing the content and symbolism of dreams to gain insight into subconscious thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Dreams can tell a lot of our personal lives, and 100% of dreams know what's up before we ourselves know. Trust and follow your dreams.
These tools are often used in combination with intuition, ritual, and personal symbolism, and the effectiveness of each tool can vary depending on the practitioner's skill and connection with their craft.

(below, there are some observations about my language and its gendered words, which we have a lot. feel free to ignore if it's not of your interest)
As you can see, most adjectives are gendered; like "brava" (femimine) and "bravo" (masculine) -- both meaning "angry/pissed off". Mostly, the letters "o" and "a" are used to define if a word is masculine or feminine, respectively, and there aren't neutral alternatives for them (few exeptions are adjectives like "inteligente [smart]" and "estudante [student]" or "forte [strong]" which are completely neutral, like the english ones). Then we have the official gendered pronouns of portuguese language, "ele (he)" and "ela (she)". Lately, though, people are agreeing on the inclusion of neutral alternatives, using the letter "e" in these gendered words, instead of "a" or "o"
Ex: Brave (neutral alternative for brava/bravo) - angry
Cuidadose (neutral alternative for cuidadoso/cuidadosa) - careful
Esperte (neutral alternative for esperto/esperta) - another word for "smart"
And as some masculine words use "e" instead of "o", (like "ele"), the neutral equivalent would use "u" (becoming "elu", the neutral pronoun in portuguese language, like the singular they in english).
Fun fact: The word "the" also is gendered in portuguese, being divided in "o" (masculine) and "a" (feminine): [a mulher era inteligente - the woman was smart] or [o homem era lindo - the man was beautiful]. The neutral equivalent of it would be "ê" (ê menine era divertido - the enby was funny).
Another fun fact: There is a thing in portuguese which we call "nominal concordance" (concordância nominal), which is basically that every word in the sentence has to agree in number and gender with the noun. In english, most of the words are naturally neutral, but not in portuguese. Basically, nominal concordance means that you can't put a masculine adjective to describe a feminine noun. And I don't mean just "woman", "girl" and words like that. Many things in portuguese, like normal objects, also are put like fem or masc, since we don't have the pronoun "it". "Door" would be a feminine noun. Just as "mug", "shirt" or "window". So we use feminine adjectives when refering to such objects. Ex: A porta estava aberta. (The door was open - pink are the feminine words. Door is already feminine.) - O portão estava aberto. (The gate was open - blue are the masculine words. Gate is already masculine.)
Yet another fun fact: When we are talking of a plural, and in that plural we have both masculine and feminine members, the masculine stands out (This is actually because the language is mysoginist but forget that for a minute). In english, you have "they", right? In portuguese, not. We have gendered plurals! The most dumbest thing in the word, actually. Eles - plural of "he". If you're talking about a bunch of man, instead of saying, "they", you say "eles". Elas - plural of "she". Talking about a bunch of woman, "elas". So, when we put a woman and a men (pronoun conforming) in a group and talk about them, we don't say, he and she, as we miss the "they". We say "eles", the masculine plural. Because the masculine stands out. That's the rule: if in a plural there's at least one masculine noun, no matter if there are 99 fems, the nominal concordance might be masculine.
One more fun fact: While the word "person" (pessoa) is technically feminine in portuguese, you can use it to refer to people of any gender/pronouns, since it's pretty neutral, after all. Even if you got to use feminine words with it because of nominal concordance.
One more: most colors, even when used as adjectives, don't have gendered variations. Like blue - azul. You can say that a man or a woman are blue (don't ask why) without having to change the word. Some exeptions are red (vermelho/vermelha) and purple (roxo/roxa).

Cosmic Holography I
Xuefeng
October 31, 2005
(Translated by Transn and Edited by Kaer)
The universe runs in holographic order and consists of the distributed psychic energy of the Greatest Creator - Tao - just as we humans are composed of the flesh and spirit of the same. From the infinitely cosmic to the infinitesimally tiny, each are closely related and connected together. I am in you and you are in me. On the macro scale, energy fills the space and time of the entire universe, while Tao controls the operation, development and changes of all things in within it; therefore, it is an organic whole, and the seemingly unconnected multiple celestial bodies, phenomena, and people are its constituent parts - its cells - so the universe is holographic. On the micro scale, atoms, molecules, and people are consortiums of structure and energy which have mutual interaction with everything else and together belong to the unity of Tao and energy; so the universe is holographic.
l Try to pierce your toe with a needle. You will feel muscles tightening throughout your body and your brain will jump with an immediate emergency response. If a lover or your parents are next to you, they will also react promptly. Why? Because you are holographic.
l Turn your computer on and access the web. Global data will stream onto your screen as you search. Why? Because the internet is holographic.
l Arthritis sufferers can sense rain while the weather is still dry and many animals can detect seismic disturbances before the earth shakes. Why? Because the earth is holographic.
l The waning and waxing of the moon raises and lowers the tides, and sunspots directly affect climatic changes and the rhythms of LIFE on the earth. Why? Because the solar system is holographic.
Cosmic holography also means that the whole contains all of its parts and all of its parts contain the whole. Our bodies are constituted of a hundred and thirty trillion cells and each of them contain all the information of the human body; that is, when they all assemble together, they constitute a complete human individual. Each cell is just an insignificant component, but when we divide them individually, each one can form a human body. Viewing them with Buddha’s eyes, each of them is a complete human body with five senses, seven holes, bones, hair, internal organs, four limbs, flesh, skin, and so forth. If we split a single cell, we will find that this inconceivable cell is made up of an equal number of even more inconceivable ones.
Our complete image can be seen in a mirror, but if we break that mirror in half, then each half will reflect our complete image; that is, we will have two images. Break it in half again, and we will have four identical images, and so on. If we break this mirror into millions, billions, or even trillions of pieces, we will still see our complete image in each and every one of them; the number of potential images is countless.
Even if a seed has not been planted in soil to take root, sprout, blossom, and bear fruit, its whole entity, the shape of its leaves, growth patterns, and so on can be seen with dharma eyes.
We cannot see the shape of a bud if we do not know what type it is and without referring to its blade with naked eyes and we will not know how big it will grow, but we can see its size and shape by looking at it holographically.
If you cut a growing leaf in half, then its whole image will be visible from the remaining half, and you can see its entirety from either half; all things are like this because the universe is holographic.
Now that we know that the universe is holographic, our worldview and outlook on life will take a subversive leap. If we want to understand the Tao of Lao Tzu, the Dharma of Sakyamuni, and the thinking and scientific theory of Jesus, we will understand it thoroughly and at a glance, and our spiritual perception will open. Those with deeper roots can develop a series of special magical powers and arts and will feel at ease in dealing with the affairs of their daily lives.
For example, one big distress in life is the love between men and women. Between lovers and married couples, one always expects the other to be faithful and pure, but if they learn that the other is having a secret relationship with a third party, then they become distressed and sad and no matter how much effort the other exerts to vindicate themself, "I love you just as much, I really do", it will be useless, because their credibility will have been lost. “You cannot be true to me if you also love THAT person” and “Your love is false and the love that you offer me is incomplete” would be the responses.
Their distress is caused by not understanding the holographic nature of the universe. From the holographic universe perspective, if someone loves several people, even hundreds, thousands, millions, or billions of people, their love for each of them can be complete, true, and absolutely complete. It is like seeing oneself in a mirror, there is one self in one mirror, two selves in two mirrors, and a billion selves in a billion mirrors, but each is complete. Buddha can incarnate and rescue trillions because Buddha knows that the universe is holographic and Buddha is holographic.
Conversely, if I am loved by ten thousand women, even if they also love other men but I believe that their love for me is wholehearted and complete, then I will gladly accept their love. Likewise, if I love ten thousand women, then my love for each of them can still be true and complete.
Why should you have to cling onto just one? Life is short. Does it matter if you love more than one? Other truths can be inferred accordingly. In short, oneness of man and nature, universal holography, subtle wisdom, and depth of understanding reincarnate into trillions.

Title: A Fresh, Rightful Gust of Positivity Sweeps the World: A Happy Epistle from Earth, the Jubilant Dweller of the Universe
It's January 18th, 2024 - a radiant dawn cloaked in splendid morning mists beckoned yet another routine day. As mother Earth went about its ceaseless pirouettes around the sun, somewhere on her lovely emerald-blue face, she erupted in a jovial wink. This blink on her face rippled through each vein, river, every ruffling leaf, bustling city, twinkling constellation - reminding us earthlings, that our story was more than a weary chronicle. It was an intricate cosmic ballet replete with fortuitous joy.
A small nook in the cosmic timeline. The splendid banter with celestial friends, Universe and Milky Way, across light years' coffee table guffaws a hearty mirth that leaves sunspots in their wake - Earth often told her folks. If only we were good at space humour! So today, we human beings felt the waves of an exuberant whisper travel through us - 'Look around, isn't it incredible how far you have come?'
Shhh... if you press your ear against the world today, you'll hear an uproarious laughter echo across galaxies. Our cosmic ma, Earth, scored 93 on the ‘cosmic chuckles' index, and you could feel the Universe nudge our little planet playfully, 'good one!’
Yes, today is that day. The day that knocked the doomsday harbingers into absolute oblivion. An indescribably incredible event with cosmic proportions reverberated through every life pulsating on our beloved planet - establishing a day of global unity and compassion. An enigmatic melange of emotions overwhelmed every earthling - regardless of race, language, and geographical divide. We took a quiet minute to appreciate the new epoch we had entered, prompted by the untethered celebration of the Universe herself.
No, we did not become immortal today, neither did we make contact with any other worldly life form (they might have ignored our cosmic calls!), nor did our doleful glaciers rise back into pristine snowy beauty overnight. We stumbled onto a path better, richer and way more incredible – a subtle revolution was seeded in the deep pockets of our heart – The Harmonious Revolution!
We have collectively - without aggression or altercation - taken a decision to respect and love each other's perspectives. A light bulb of tolerance lit up worldwide. And suddenly, we no longer require voluminous rulebooks to foster peace; it was in us all along.
The peace treaty today didn’t bind countries. It linked hearts. Countries weren't giving into the imposition of rules; people were adopting love and understanding out of choice. An undivided language - respect, sprouted everywhere, uniting all. Harmony seemed our sole responsibility. Everyone on Earth celebrated their unique beliefs, choices, orientations, customs and preferences, together. Difference suddenly did not make any difference anymore!
Today, Earth bore the emblem of unanimous joy, sparking fresh stardust smiles in every dwelling and neighborhood. Today, the concept of Unity in Diversity changed from a compelling maxim into a universal truth, prompting each earthling to pen their unique verses in this enchanting anthology of humanity.
On January 18th, 2024, Earth beautifully revolutionized herself by recognizing the coexistence of varied thoughts, affirming that differences aren’t threats but intriguing shades of this cosmic pantomime.
So here we stand today - hearts beaming with newfound insight. A comical little civilization standing at the cusp of the grand celestial ballet. Lost amidst countless galaxies yet blissfully dancing our whimsical little twirl.
We all belong. We're all one. One planet, innumerable colours.
Thank you, Earth, for embracing us - different yet similar children of yours, equally. For now, more than ever, we celebrate life - it's not merely about surviving, it’s about cherishing and relishing our beautifully complex cosmic ballet. From this date onward, our human spirit echoes - ‘In our incredible, multifarious discord, lies our breathtaking harmony. So let’s rock this space gig together!'

Untitled Composition # 9788
A treochair sequence
1
To be told! Empties these, but with its crescent moon: and Lo! For thy young
were dead! Begot in the tree, and mates, with the Paradise of ioyes, dost
go down, like something for judgment continuaunce. Were why men breath, welcoming
him to scorn, upon the hunter he! Who now, ere Phoebe from some
slight fear. Should duly haue end, melting in the curse of sea, the which through
in wretch as I were the moss, and to have tower’d in Profusion to

Celestial threasure of my lameness, as each new leaf out of a
habit—blows eight loaves in dark and The truth of some Old Story?
2
Her sad eyes so suited, and its Music heard no more vpon her obteine.
3
With a knot. Her tears envy and close behind, Oh, weep for Adonais.
4
The gleam to spil. It was so full of ivy in the first snowdrop, virgin-
troop of little eyes, dart down a screech owl to myself disown ye!
Keep with pansies overblown. With that faire, and torturing punishment.
5
Spake with her arms and kingdoms in the Sea, and cruel are. To a wider
choice between the other end of loues delight. Of trials, to mock its own
legs embargoed from the beauty shall comment upon a day, the Hus-
bandman selfe my mate in her face but to move to the brydall boures.
6
I think of Rhyme, but their ripen’d from beneath the night with lilies whiter

may sigh my love can say; mend yet amid a prospect wide; the Almighty
will be dear light; the whiles Beauties worth do define, I yet in sight
of better. Floats there’s nothing and this day let in a tender pressure.
Anguish was extreme hope, and making the deid of the secrete with
long traueile I am afraid of honour first bud? When I looked at

of the Bridegroom meets the path has loosen’d from hidden row, nor of your

cloud, forget’st so long have done my wrongs thy Court, thy Kingdom of the
song. If every face hath of my white, hide in death, o’er-taking through my
coffee Black and cannot draw his Hand from low-grown yew trees, a veneration
of the pendulums pulsing inside of every pony there
more than forests the night was pass’d to it, your bed, and fro on which upon
it gave its airy stress still ye thus mutual comfort shew? Dry,
season of Dryope’s lone lulling of Leonardo or Michelangelo
that breathe his braunches sere. And mates, with a haw bayberry kame?
7
Let men kill which trouble with silv’ry wings, and adorations, tender,
themselves; and, once more authority. Looking with holy water dewe.
Their image only once a net, now a handfuls of disbelief though
fortunes wreck did rayse, your hands. Distracted; madly did I sow, and leave
auld Scotia’s strands with goodly my faire loue did prepare the erotically
swollen moon let me, fearing a doctor’s door she must. Two loving
to take way long, Jámi, in the Universe, and thaw before thy
shadows fly; which the whiles there had struck dumb, than when I did set his eyes.
8
Who, suddenly when we met, jumping from all weed-hidden weariness,
which within their evening has shown, courting out a little work did trance
unto my hope, to spell, sweet bents let us divide what have I to

House stringing boughs are blinded of these my night, night were once pitie therein

9
My mistress and is no need of fire-tailed exhalationship based on
love which gives the grot of Proserpine, where, to haunt the surface but the

In sleep speak of this! Her ebon urn, young tears and chain-smoke cigarette.
12
That beauties reddest inke Venus hath left me, and fife to the maiden,

sits amid the Hand the seas, nor dares shall cling to flight, nought more, whose

During ages uncounted the three main races of the world of Ada have battled against each other over the control of reality itself. The merging of the celestial spheres happened more then millennia ago, an apocalyptic event that fused the world of men with the magical races of the elves and the monsters.
The prophesied return of the Mirror Shard is whispered among few, no one dares to bring it up the events that let to the signing of the luminous concordat, and yet, this mysterious individual may be the world's only hope.
You assume the role of the Royal Mage. Considered by many the most powerful magic wielder in the world, you are feared across the continents, you answer only to the ruler of Hoasir and their wishes are the clay you shall mold into a masterpiece.
Don the crown of mirrors, but beware for the burden is heavy and its shards piercing.
Play as male, female, or non-gender specific, along with transgender choices;
Customize your appearance, race, background, personality;
Romance any of seven different gender-selectable love interests, featuring three distinct poly routes;
Choose one of five magical specialties, they are divided in five major Schools of Magic—Elementari, Vectorix, Witherblossom, Shadowbright and Mirage;
Pick between five magical races, each with entirely unique backgrounds and different obstacles for you to surpass—Human, Half-ork, Elf, Duwende and Giant;
The gift of magic is followed by a terrible bane, struggle against the shackles of madness trying to take hold of your psyche, find out who is behind the mysterious voice that caused your tragic awakening;
Save the Emperor/Empress and their empire from certain doom, or don the crown of mirrors, accepting your true calling and bend the spheres to your will.
Maëdhredonor “leaf-licker”
Maëdhredonor, or simply Maë, is well known not only across Elsyum but the world of Ada for their role during the merging of the celestial spheres. As all elves go they tend to be arrogant and spiteful of other races, particularly the race of monsters.
Also extremely notable for their title, Lord/Lady of the Shimmering Waters, Maë is solely responsible for the well-being of everyone residing in the ethereal city of Maia Galadon. They have long icy white hair, deep blue eyes, and among the elves they are considered to be one of the tallest, standing at 6'8''.
If you choose the Elf path you will be able to able to meet them early on.
Nassir / Nassira “keeper of the mirror shard”
The first to be granted the title of "Keeper of the Mirror Shard", Nassir/Nassira have trained their whole life, shaping their body through endless training sessions until they became a living weapon—shield—for the sole purpose of safeguarding Ada's only hope of salvation, you.
The Keeper, for the most part, remains a distant but reliable shadow that you can always count on. Their devotion comes with great respect towards everything you do, your safety is not only the most essential part of their life but the reason why the world keeps spinning.
They stand taller than most humans, with deep black skin and bright amber colored eyes.
If you choose the Duwende path you will be able to able to meet them early on.
Emperor Ulysses / Empress Ulyssa “child of the gods”
The de facto ruler of the continent of Alma, also known as the main continent. Legends say the blood of the ancient gods runs through their veins, if this is actually true or not remains to be seen. You could actually run some tests to confirm their divine ancestry but would the world of men be ready for the results?
After their mothers were struck with a terrible kind of bane curse the empire fell into despair, the fear of magic grew once again, fed by the death of the Empress and the terrible fate set upon her wife.
Faced with impossible odds the child of the gods then rose to power, will you help them douse the fire of fear forever?
Sun and Mun “filthy traitors”
Half-ork twins who were sentenced to die for crimes they may or may not have committed in their homeland, the monstrous continent of Mun-Dol. Fortunately for them they were able to escape the unforgiving clutches of death thanks to “divine intervention”—if that is what truly went on remains to be seen.
For some time now they were left with only one option, to live among humans. With their monstrous appearance, light green skin, superior height and tusks slightly smaller than their full-ork ancestors, they are sure to attract the attention of the humans by their outlandish looks and odd behavior.
If you choose the half-ork path you will be able to able to meet them early on.
Knight / Dame Commander Dandelion “the lion’s teeth”
As Hoasir’s army leader, they are responsible for all the kingdom’s divisions and troops. Dandelion rose through the ranks of the army during a period of intense conflict between the kingdoms of Alma and the Free Cities of Aiya. Exploiting this time of unrest, they’ve earned the complete loyalty of their men through fantastical displays of bravery and aspiring devotion to their homeland.
Their distrust and fierce animosity towards mages are notorious as it is well-founded, and they won’t hold back on their criticism of your role as a Royal Mage. With arms the size of tree trunks, many suspect they carry ork blood through their veins a possibility which is quickly dismissed by the alabaster tone of their skin and the thick mane of flaming red hair.
If you choose the human path you will be able to able to meet them early on.
Kassian / Kalliope “the slave”
The first slave to be gifted to the king/queen of Hoasir as one of many olive branches by the Matriarch and Slave Master of Lysorno, the Emerald City. Captured at a young age, and harboring a tragic past—like most of the slaves enduring life long servitude in the free cities—they were trained and punished accordingly to their ancestry alone, in a cruel attempt to draw the primal need for defiance out and instill unwavering obedience.
Their kind yet defiant demeanor is a clear example of the sort of monstrosity humans are capable of specially to one of their own. They have a well built, muscular body, bronze skin ravaged by endless hours under the unforgiving sun and merciless whippings. With dark-brown curls cut just above the ears, and the mellow glint on their coffee-colored eyes, their ancestry are distinctly Aiyan.

Trinkets, 37: Interesting baubles, semi magical objects and items touched by mystery.
A blue steel mask that resembles a face at rest, emotionless and cold to the touch when not worn.
A small silver orb with the word "McGuffin" acid etched into its surface. It is coveted by all who look upon it.
A jar filled with potpourri that smells like their childhood home to each person who smells it.
A charm made from small pieces of whale bone fastened together by metal and leather and etched with strange sigils. The object has been treated with mixtures of rare herbs and other substances and the entire bonecharm hums with power, creating a faint but distinctive ‘song’ that the spiritually perceptive can hear.
A small, polished, fossilized cross-section of wood. The interior cracks have filled with some opalescent material in shimmering blues and green. Knowledgeable PC's can identify the mineral as opalized wood.
A double recorder hewn from a strange, pale ivory not of this earth.
An iron pocket watch with the chain extruding from an eagle's mouth mounted into the top of the watch. The clasp at the end of the chain is a talon.
A small, handheld harp made from the wishbone of a celestial griffin. It was alchemically treated with elemental fire, laminated with entsap, and enameled with scenes from myth and legend. The instrument is translucent and slightly opalescent in coloration and strung with mithril wire.
A dozen glass roses are arranged in a lovely bouquet. A ribbon of purple silk around one of them has an ivory card attached. The words on the card say, “Glass thorns cut more deeply, my dear.”
A glass bauble with no visible means of opening it contains blue sand and white insects that resemble ants but have iridescent wings. When they fly, a pleasant and soothing song emanates from the bauble.

A dartboard that has a picture of the local regent on it. The eyes currently have darts sticking out of them.
A dark, mahogany box roughly the size of a dozen coins. The box does not appear to have any obvious hinges or opening mechanisms. A perceptive PC will discover a tiny hidden latch that opens the box. Inside and laid together are a matching set of ten gold coins. Each coin is ornately crafted, but slight variations in the coins suggest that they may have been individually handmade.
A smoky black precious stone. When held up to the light you can see the back of a devil pressed against the gem, but no matter how you turn it, you can never see its face.
A small pouch with a moist eye within it. When you bring it into the light, you see the pupil quickly constrict. A PC well versed in religion can tell that this is the living eye of a dedicated follower of the god of orcs. The original owner can still see from this eye.
An ink dip pen made entirely of tiny bones, complete with matching ink pot.
A mummified baby wrapped in funerary wrappings with a solid silver and gold scarab on its neck on a very tight dried leather thong.
A basilisk egg, tightly bound within a leather pouch and swaddled in a bundle of furs.
A small sack filled with eight gears and springs of incremental sizes that appear to be of the same make or set.
A Gnome’s skull that possesses a distinct odour of wine and gnome blood, faint to a human, but strong to a race with keen noses, like elves or kobolds. Rough garnets the color of clotted blood have been pounded into the skull, along with nails of silver and gold. Around lower edges of the brain-case, the tails of giant weasels have been attached, giving the item a furry fringe. The jaw has been wired to the skull with silver wire and a wispy fringe of beard and mustache cling to the bits of dried skin around the skull’s mouth. Runes of foul power have been chiselled into the bone.
A small bag made of chainmail, tightly tied closed and locked. Found inside is a heart made of glass.
A grossly oversized fist-shaped gauntlet that is a fused amalgamation of plates, spurs, gears, and rivets. It smells of grease and machinery.
A child’s toy chariot with the face made from a stuffed growling dog.
An unsettling ceramic figurine of a whale with a mouth full of victims.
A pair of repulsive metal bells designed like bloated women eating fish.
A drum, set with stretched gargoyle hide and woven with choker sinews. It requires a strong arm to pound the instrument but the sound is unique, like a deep thumping of stone.
A black fan made of kobold skin with graphic images of kobold torment.
A worn-looking box of dark wood, fitted with simple hinges of brass, is roughly the size of a man’s head, and rattles when moved. The interior contains a collection of tiny humanoid bones. The underside of the lid bears writing that appears in the primary language of anyone reading it, and states that the most recent reader is attuned with the box. No further explanation is to be found within.
A masterwork steel lute with a triangular body and a headstock that resembles a carved demon’s skull.
A strand of ten flat black stones on a knotted leather thong, each carved with the “Yr” rune and roughly the size of a typical gold piece.
A gleaming crystal shard that shifts its coloration every few seconds, hurting the eyes of witnesses as it does so.
An eel-hide leather pouch filled with an unspeakably foul-tasting coarse salt.
A grey leather vest is made of the rough, tanned hide of a goblin shark.
Orb of forgetfulness. When touched the orb you will remember the last thing you tried to think about but forgot. You will however forget why you wanted to remember it.
A small silk pillow has split open here to reveal that it has been stuffed entirely with brilliant golden hair.
A handwritten note which reads, in part: “She keeps it in the vanity. Without it, there’s no proof.”
A porcelain mask resembles a skull with its mouth sowed shut.
A box made to resemble a heavily pregnant woman with fangs instead of teeth. Her copious belly contains a rather grotesque image of an infant with three heads, each with an open mouth like a key-hole.
A large hourglass labelled "The World Entire." There isn't much sand left in the top bulb.
A clay pipe with the name "Underhill" inscribed on the side.
A copy of Playdrake magazines. Its pages are filled with lewd images and salacious stories of draconic females. It is not suitable for minors.
A small wooden bowl engraved with the heads of a snarling lion, bear, a screaming eagle, and a fish's face.
A vial of scented oil that can be burned as incense of worn as a perfume. Everyone smells something different but, always something nostalgic and a bit sad.
A cube three inches across, made of thin glass of six different colors, one on each face. When it is placed on a side, the colors shift until they finally settle with one color on top (sometimes the same color that was placed, often a different one). There doesn't seem to be a pattern to which colour ends up where.
A leather vest with one hundred pockets, divided between the outside inside and a number of secret hidden ones. One of the pockets contains a four leaf clover.
A guitar that, regardless of what string is plucked, will always produce the same set of notes in the same order. Only the speed at which these notes are produced can be changed.
An iron orb that always rolls against gravity, but only while in contact with a solid surface. If not in contact with a solid surface, it has no unusual properties.
A gemstone that takes on the appearance of the birth stone of the last person to touch it.
A chess set that animates and attacks people who attempt to cheat at the game.
A vivid, deep purple crystal that appears to consist of a random assortment of thousands of tiny cubes bound together. Knowledgeable PC's can identify the mineral as fluorite.
A small hood for a trained falcon. Any bird wearing the hood does not need to eat or drink as long as the hood remains on.
A pair of small metal rods, each about five inches long and a half inch wide, with bulbs at one end. When held, the bulb transmutes into the proper utensil needed for the current meal.
A glass jar that automatically separates any liquid poured into it into multiple layers of individual substances, as though a centrifuge had been employed.
A braided lanyard bearing the words "BEST FRINEDS". When the wearer of this braided lanyard closes their eyes, they experience the sensations of having warm sun shining on their face and a gentle breeze tousling their hair. The scent of campfire smoke can be smelled, and the laughter of children can be heard.
A pen of exquisite craftsmanship with a body like smooth, polished marble and gold trimming. The pen has a small golden leaver where in the tip of the pen can be touched to the shadow of an individual's head and enough ink for a full sheet of paper is extracted.
A leather wallet stamped with the symbol of a mousetrap, containing a full set of certified identification papers denoting that the bearer is a member of the ratcatcher's guild. The section containing the member's physical description (Height, weight, sex, race, eye, skin and hair colour) is completely blank and could be filled in by anyone with half decent handwriting.
Mirror of Self-Interest: A small steel mirror that doesn't reflect anything but the face of the person holding it. However, this image of the person is perfect, devoid of any flaws or incongruities with the holder's appearance as though they were the most attractive person in the province. This image is also only visible to the bearer.
A black and purple scale of some enormous horror of the far realm.
A velvet coin purse containing half a dozen egg-sized polished stones in various natural hues.
A skull carved out of charcoal. When burned, the skull will turn into a pile of ash. Within an hour, the skull reforms into charcoal.
A thick caribou skin frontier jacket covered in mythological scenes.
A perfectly preserved human brain, encased in a large dome of clear glass.
Apple of Doubt: A fruit that looks like an apple, it tastes like an apple, it smells like an apple, for all intents and purposes it appears to be an apple, but you are certain it is not an apple.
A blood red mask made from carefully sculpted bone, shaped to look like the face of a grinning demon. The eyes of the mask are the only parts that are open, with the eyes of the bearer appearing bright crimson while looking through it.
A suncatcher in the shape of an evil deity literally catches the light of the sun, forming a hazy space of shadows around it.
A large, round-bottomed flask containing a faintly golden liquid which smells sweet, but overwhelmingly of alcohol.
A deck of cards carefully organized within a small box. The card faces are beautiful but contain a great deal of seemingly meaningless text beneath hand-painted pictures.
A set of windchimes that move though no wind is present. The mellow sounds of their chimes bring back memories that make you ache with anguish and despair.
A scroll that repeats these words endlessly; “Seek out the Gilded Glade and place me upon the pedestal.”
A large painting portraying the wonders of underwater life. The viewer see merfolk, sea elves, and all manner of aquatic creatures going about their lives. The edges of the driftwood frame around the canvas is dripping seawater.
A simple silver fork. Embossed into the handle are the letters “JA.” The tines of the eating implement give off a slight green glow. A crowded inscription on the back of the fork reads: “To King Ragnis, may venom never touch thine lips.”
A small envelope sealed with a wax sigil. If unsealed the letter inside reads: “Meet me at the Red Rose at 7 in the eve. Kill the bearer of this note.”
A tightly rolled cloth that unfurls into a solid black banner, with a faint, hard-to-look-at pattern shimmering in the weave.
A rough-hewn, rust-colored stone filled with half-buried flakes of dark blue crystals forming the semblance of a rose. Knowledgeable PC's can identify the mineral as azurite.
A statuette of a six armed man, holding shields in each hand. With a ring-loop for a head, which is looped onto a necklace.
A large obsidian sphere with jutting shapes carved in and sticking out. Each surface is intricately carved with a complex script composed of squares. It is wrapped several times and held inside a smooth pottery sphere.
A squat metal cylinder of brass that resembles a small compass. When opened, it reveals a dull blue gem.
Neverspill Mug: Any drink poured into this mug can never be spilled accidentally. Someone can be struck upside the head with it, without a single drop escaping.
Unending Chalk: A stick of chalk can be used to draw, but never gets shorter or breaks.
A rolled up canvas painting of a dreary field with dark uninviting woods beyond. The leaves of the trees in the background of the painting seem to sway and there appears to be something moving through the field.
A hilt of what once must have been a magnificent sword but the blade has been removed. When the hilt is picked up, the wielder feels the weight of a whole sword and when the hilt is whipped around, the wielder can hear a blade slicing through the air. But it is just a hilt...
An apple that is the most mouth-watering, beautiful apple you have ever seen...but when you approach within three feet of it you begin to see it rot and spoil right in front of your eyes and even touching it and smelling it confirms that it is indeed rotted. As you back away you see the apple's rot and decay reverse and it becomes the same beautiful apple you saw seconds earlier.
A set of sky blue robes made from a high quality cotton with the Order of Deacons symbol sewn into the chest.
A set of bagpipes made from a rich mahogany wood, artfully carved and well balanced.
A hooded lantern with an adjustable iris to control the light level. Its adamantine casing is covered in stars and concentric circles, as well as text no one seems able to read.
A set of robes primarily red in colour, with subtle green highlights, as well as silver thread embroidery and grey fur lining around the collar, hood and sleeves. Overall it seems to border a fine line between looks and utility, given that the sleeves feature each a strap allowing them to be rolled up and secured, and several leather belts attached to the inside of the robe fill in the role of pockets or holsters. Under direct sunlight, the robes have a very faint, barely noticeable iridescent sheen to them.
A large obsidian sphere with jutting shapes carved in and sticking out. Each surface is intricately carved with a complex script composed of squares. It is wrapped several times and held inside a smooth pottery sphere.
A long and pale wand engraved with several horizontal slits,
A bleached white jawbone once belonging to a dwarf. It shouts insults in dwarven whenever it is touched by an elf.
A pair of golden earrings, with sapphires set in the center. The sapphires always appear to be as if they are catching light, no matter the light condition, giving them a false, glowing appearance.
A marble statuette of a scowling woman with octopus tentacles for arms emerging from dark ocean waves.
A well-made holy symbol of the minor God of Random Domain that when carried or worn by a bearer who is not a devout follower of that God, fills its owner with a sense of dread
A pair of war drum clubs whose handles are made of a dark brown wood with human skulls bound with leather strips on the ends.
A heavy iron mask, intricately carved patterns and runes.
A white porcelain mask, smooth and beautiful, except for the tears of blood coming from the eye sockets.
A small, palm-sized mass of interlocking carvings. The carvings on closer examination resemble five interlocking crescents. The icon is fashioned from what looks to be ancient bone and knowledgeable PC's can determine that the object was fashioned from the knuckles of five different dragons.
Coin of Indecision: A gold coin with the word "YES" on one side and the word "NO" on the other. If it is flipped while asking a question, the coin always lands on edge.
A thin chisel wrought in the shape of a stylized finger, with a perpetually flaking lacquer of dark green.
A leather wallet acid etched with the symbol of an alembic, containing a full set of certified identification papers denoting that the bearer is a member of the alchemists and apothecaries guild. The section containing the member's physical description (Height, weight, sex, race, eye, skin and hair colour) is completely blank and could be filled in by anyone with half decent handwriting.
Wand of False Life: An elm wand that if set down on a solid surface, will sprout tiny legs and arms, and move around like a living thing, spontaneously wandering around in a small area and sometimes dancing, particularly if there is music being played. It isn't actually alive and will not move more than three feet from where it was placed. The arms and legs will fold away if the wand is picked up, but it always seems to have an elongated face as part of the grain of the wood at one end.

Black Clover chapter 292 reaction and spoilers
What I think is interesting about Magna and Zora is that they both think of themselves of having little mana even though they both have three leaf grimoires, which seems to be the most common clover level. They both are kind of wrapped up in the societal hierarchy too thinking because they’re peasants with three leaf grimoires that means they struggle more than Noelle or Mimosa who are royals with three leaf grimoires. This is why I’ve always kind of thought of Magna as being in a kind of school metaphor, like he’s that kid who just straight up cannot take standardized tests, but if you get him doing something that plays to his strengths, those weaknesses no longer matter. It’s also what makes Zora’s solution interesting because it’s a reframing of how they should be using their magic. It might not be that they’re weaker than other three leaf clovers, but that they have to use their magic in less conventional ways.
You know, thinking about last week’s chapter, it’s highly possible that Magna doesn’t actually have Flame Magic (and possible that Zora’s magic isn’t Ash Magic). Like since when does Flame Magic mean you can chain your soul to someone else’s soul and hen mix and divide mana? It’s like he’s got the correct shoe size but the toe’s a little too tight because the design is wrong. If Magna had something more like say Celestial Magic (fire like the sun has fire, soul magic like we are made of stars) or Earth Magic (fire like lava, soul magic like we come from and return to the earth) and he just can access the fire element of that easily so he assumes he has Fire Magic, which might explain a lot. How are you going to master your magic after all if you’ve identified its affinity incorrectly? There doesn’t seem to be a way to double check you’ve figured out your affinity properly in universe as far as we’ve seen too. Or, perhaps that’s something only nobles have the means to pay for, which is why peasants think it’s their lineage holding them back.
Magna calls the spell “Secret Flame Magic: Soul Chain Death Match” and says that it can only be used once and then says, “Let me give you [Dante] a heads up. That chain is our souls. If you yank it out or break it, you’ll go insane so better be careful.” Which at first I was like “How does he know? Who did he kill?” but then I realized the spell pages in his grimoire probably have the rules on them so he wouldn’t necessarily have to use the spell to know what it can do. But then that raises the question of how can you make a spell and perfect it without using it? Has he practiced it? Maybe he means one time only like one time per threat.
Really kind of excited not only to see Dante get his ass kicked but also to find out what happens after Dante dies and the spell stops too. I just have a lot of questions and absolutely no answers yet. It’s very exciting.

you already know I want to ask about literally ALL of those short stories but I'll limit myself to just asking about Saint Sweet Alyssum and Doctor Death and Magdalena?
Also ignore that i accidentally hit the unfollow instead of ask button. damn the tumblr formatters for putting this buttons so close together,, i ruined our mutualship streak :(
Kats!! Our mutualship streak!!
(i forgive you)
Okay so Saint Sweet Alyssum is about a world where all priests/pastors are angels, and it's about a small town with a low-ranked angel as the pastor and he's having a hard time inspiring his congregation. The MC is his one friend who helps him as he tries to help around the community and rally up some faith. Then one day our angel-pastor gets into a traffic accident and from the wounds in his arms flowers start growing. Which he takes a sign of the Divine and people in the town start coming to church just to see it and yes some of the flowers are sweet alyssum hence the title. Anyways his friend/the MC is concerned about him having these open wounds, floral or not, and later the friend finds out that actually the wounds don't just grow flowers they also grow weeds and thistles and the angel-pastor uproots the ugly plants from his wounds every day until something beautiful blossoms that he can show his congregation.
Excerpt:
Is that--” I reach out two fingers “--that leaf looks like poison ivy.”
He jerks the arm back. “It must have fallen in from the widow’s garden I was attending.”
“You didn’t answer me. Does it hurt you to have this growing from your body?”
His eyes shift away from yours. “Suffering is the loom on which saints are woven.”
“Oh, so this is about you getting some kinda celestial promotion? Get Saint Michael’s attention?” I shake my head. “I thought angels were s’posed to be above hubris.”
yes it's a bit like midnight mass except i wrote it before that show aired
And then Doctor Death and Magdalena is about a world where heaven was on fire and all the angels fell but in this world the angels are divided into three classes: warriors, worshippers, and messengers. And they can only ever speak one line of dialogue according to their class: warriors say "sinner repent", worshippers say "glory to God", and messengers say "don't be afraid."
The MC is a mortician and he finds a messenger angel (in his dumpster and busily eating the wings of another dead angel) and she only ever says "don't be afraid" and so he takes her to the angel hospital and he doesn't think that she's capable of emotions or emoting but he slowly starts to understand her. This excerpt does not show that bit of character development yet lol:
The third time I see Maggie is the following week at the cafeteria. It’s almost midnight and I’m running one of my late shifts. I go into the cafeteria and put a paper cup down in place at the coffee machine when Maggie comes up next to me, her face almost smiling. “Don’t be afraid.”
“Your little spiel doesn’t work on me,” I say, moving away. “In fact it has the opposite effect. When was the last time you were ever afraid? Do you even feel what we’re feeling? Do you know how terrifying you actually are?”
“What the hell, Nathan,” says Catherine, coming out from the bathroom around the corner. “You don’t have to like her but don’t be an ass either okay? She’s not hurting anyone and she’s trying her best.”
“You just like her because she’s useful to you,” I snap, grabbing a pack of granulated sugar. “They’re machines, Cathy, programmed to do one thing or break down. There’s no trying in there. And we don’t owe them anything. We didn’t ask for them to fall out of the sky.”
Catherine fixes me with a hard look before she leads Maggie away. “Neither did they.”
ask me about this

and just like last time he was here, he is welcomed readily ( though he does not miss the way the tea - master on call subtly eyes at his belt-- no, he has once again brought no mora ) . there is a teller presently reciting something, and so he quietly sits at the bar to wait for his turn, making quiet conversation with the owner as he secures a spot . it is a good ten - odd minutes before the teller begins to wind down, and so zhongli’s drink is set down upon the bar before the watchful eyes of the tender . “ i will be back to finish it when i have paid my due . “
all he receives is a nod in assurance as he turns, making his way to the raised stage . there is no dividing backdrop, but he has always enjoyed the more quaint feeling here, with only the polished redwood walls, illuminated in lanterns no matter the hour, to accompany his form . “ good afternoon, everybody . i ask for your attention today, that i may tell to you a story of fortune . “ the people of these parts do so seldom seem to find any, and so perhaps he has chosen this particular story for these folk . “ listen to me, as i recount of Rex Lapis and His Celestial Coin . “
“ as we all know, before the long - spanning peace we have found ourselves in to this day, rex lapis was known by other names, worshipped for other things ... of course, there was little need for contracts in those days of old-- mora had hardly begun to flow of His golden lifeblood, and so there was no need for words to be penned upon paper . no, we know that in those days, He was the patron of war, and led charge against the enemies of our nation with his guardian yakshas five . whether it was pestilence, monsters, or the pure manifestation of resentment of the fierce old Ones, they followed unflinchingly . yet the same could not be said for the men and women that bolstered the ranks, those that would raise their arms with him in defense of their home . never did he call upon them, yet they would flock to him and stand a’fore the masses that threatened them, emboldened by His presence, imposing and ragged cloak fluttering in the wind with a crown of obsidian and tigerseye horns nestled into unkempt hair; by the great carver of armies that raised against the hordes .
on one such occasion though ... they were beset by a great and terrible beast king daemon, gozu - mezu, the one who delivers unto the ten courts . titanic was he, with two daemonic heads-- the left of a deranged horse with bloodshot eyes, and the right of an ox with horns that curled upwards like twin spires . with hordes of howling and snapping and shrieking daemons descending upon the great walls of their home, the humans faltered in their faith . even as rex lapis and his companion, one of the mighty guardian yakshas with a jade green mask upon his face, stood upon the walls overlooking the hordes with impassive expressions, one human dared to approach him . no fighter was he, but a farmer, with rags and tatters to his name and a hoe upon which he leaned himself when he finally drew near, falling to one knee with his head bowed before the two .
‘ oh great lords ... you bless this humble home of mine and my family’s and those that remain ... but you cannot mean to fight that many ... my lords it will surely be death . ‘ and it is not rex lapis who speaks, but the sharp tongue of his guardian yaksha, curt and abrupt: ‘ we do . ‘
and the farmer, so lacking in faith fell to his hands, with his head pressed down to the stone of the wall they stand upon . ‘ a thousand pardons-- o’ conquerer of demons-- o’ lord of geo-- but how do you look upon these monsters and not pale ... how is it that you can know that you will be victorious ..? ‘ he pleads, and raises his aged gaze upon them . and this time, it is rex lapis who looks upon him, horns sharp and catching the evening sun as he turns, and even kneels before the farmer .
‘ i look upon these fields of mine ... and i see an army . no army is unconquerable, no army can be un - killable, and nor army that threatens you will escape my judgement . if fortune favors us, we will hold . ‘ and with tears in his eyes, the farmer throws himself down once again with a cry . ‘ fate !? o’ great archon of mine, she is such a fickle thing !! how can you know that she will favor you ? ‘
great slayer of demons turns here, glancing upon the sunken form of his lord and speaks: ‘ they move . we will go . ‘ and yet, rex lapis held a moment, a clawed - hand upon the shoulder of the farmer . ‘ look to me, and we shall find out this fortune of mine . ‘ and before the mans eyes, there is held within rex lapis’ gathered hand a coin of glittering gold-- the first mora coin . the side that the farmer sees holds a symbol, like a thrice - leafed lotus ‘ this ‘ rex lapis says ‘ is heads . if fortune sees fit to land upon heads, then before the day is done, i shall hand gozu - mezu’s twin heads from the highest watchtowers this village has . if it does not, if it lands blank upon tails, we will perish beneath his rage and return anew to the earth . ‘
and before the villager can find his voice amidst the sobs and breaths that wrack his body, the coin is flipped into the air . he watches, paralyzed with fear and hope alike as it shines in the air, all three pairs of eyes upon it . and as it lands, the unmistakable symbol of a thrice - leafed lotus lands upon the ground, twirling round once -- twice -- and on the third, it stops ... lands solid upon the stone, face - side up . no sooner does it falls does the wind around the three surge with power, and in an instant, great conqueror of demons has leapt forward towards the oncoming hordes . the farmer’s hands shake slowly, looking upon the coin in wonder as rex lapis raises himself once again, and the grip upon the heavenly spear in his hand is renewed . rex lapis looks upon the man impassively before he turns . ‘ fortune is with me, then . ‘
and when the battle clears, the farmer has found himself unable to tear his eyes away from the scene . as great conqueror of demons and god of warriors charge into the fray alongside those that volunteered, great swathes are cut through the army . and when the dust settles, conqueror of demons and god of warriors stand before him one again; he has been too rooted in his terror and wonder to move, to reach for the coin . severed horse and ox head of gozu - mezu are held in the conqueror of demons’ bloodied hands, and rex lapis once more descends to his knee before the man . every man and woman and child within the city, every villager who sought to defend their home, every last one has been accounted for ... amidst a daemonic army that outnumbers them thirty - to - one .
‘ but ... how ... how could you have known that fortune would favor you, my lord ? with all of these subjects of yours on the line ... ‘
and the ground itself seems to tremble with the deep chuckle he emits . and his clawed hand reaches out, the farmer’s eyes unable to do anything but follow as he draws the coin up from the ground, and his hand quakes as it is guided open for the coin . it drops into his hand, and he hesitantly looks between the god of warriors, and the coin, turning it over slowly .
‘ it has been in my experience ... ‘
it is a double - headed coin ... twin sides shining with the thrice - leafed lotus .
‘ that we are the ones who make our own fortune . ‘

I. Only by exposing oneself to the fragility of life can one see that something indestructible sustains it. II. Life hangs, like a horizon line, between the celestial sphere and the dust cloaking everything. The line that divides earth from sky is neither earth nor sky. III. We wander in search of salvation, of something that will save this moment, this gaze, this gesture, from nothingness. Without realizing that all of this, all this harrowing beauty, is not asking to be saved: it needs only to exist. IV. Everything, in its fragility, manifests the indestructible. ... Text
So my copy of the TLJ artbook hasn’t arrived yet, but thanks to @ashesforfoxes I was able to stare at the concept art of the pages from the Jedi texts and ramble some.
The script
Seems to be an alphabet of 30+ letters. The actual letters seem to take inspiration from several more or less ancient writing systems. I don’t know how it was designed, but a good half of the letters have simple shapes for which it’d be easy to find correspondences in a bunch of real writing systems. It’s a pretty good choice, gives an air of familiarity but not too much.
Some of the symbols associated with the illustrations do not occur in the text. Could be a set of numerical or symbols, astronomical, zodiacal, something something?
The dots between the letters are interpuncts I think. Interpuncts are word dividers, signalling the boundary between one word and the next (the use of spaces is far from universal – some writing systems are scriptio continua, they don’t use word dividers at all, a bunch of ancient scripts just used vertical lines, in some latin texts there can be multiple interpuncts to indicate the length of the pause, etc). Some of the pages in the Jedi book do use spaces instead, which is interesting.
It’s not fully random. There’s repeated words (one no less than seven times) and letter associations, but it really doesn’t look like a text in English with swapped letters + a few more phonemes either. I don’t think it’s meant to be deciphered anyway.
A note on the hand / calligraphy style – it’s relatively thick and kind of blocky, and probably an aesthetic choice considering there’s a lot of thinner lines in the illustrations.
The other books are probably written in different scripts (well if there’s anything inside the props - maybe they only did one book?); this is the best picture of the spines I could find and it’s still crap but there’s two decently visible scripts and none looks like the one in the concept art pages.
The manuscript
Generous use of space. Either the Jedi of old weren’t worried about their paper supply and/or its cost, either it’s a statement.
Not in so bad a state, considering the age it must have and the fact that it’s been kept in a damn tree for a number of years.
Most of the text in in black, fading to brown, so in our-universe it’d probably be some kind of iron gall ink. Checks with the state of the manuscript as seen in the movie (brittle pages). But who knows what weird shit the Jedi of old used for pigments?
Red ink seems to be used for rubrication - it’s mostly a medieval thing, scribes would use red ink to write a header, signal the beginning of a section, emphasize something, etc. In The Book it seems to be mostly used in this way - the sixth page’s framed text is not rubrication but the goal is the same, emphasis.
Blue and gold (ink or paint, not actual gold leaf) are also used to emphasize parts of the text, words or standalone letters. Some seem to be initials, but others stand apart from the text. Both colors are also used for the illustrations, along with a bit of white. The red ink is only used in one illustration.
The gold is also used at the top of some pages or in-between paragraphs, with series of rectangular shapes, seemingly to mark different sections. Or it could be for the aesthetics. For a moment I thought it looked like Morse code, but i don’t really think it’s carrying meaning of its own.
The illustrations
The blue and gold illustrations seem to be cosmological/astronomical in nature. The red one on the final page is... different. The use of colors in illustrations may be codified somewhat, though the sample is too small to know for sure.
The first page is the one seen in TLj, without the “spent thousands of years in a tree” option. Looks like some kind of star chart to me, without the actual stars and with the Jedi Order’s symbol slapped on top. Or something like zodiac quadrants maybe. Compare to:
The compass of mystery
The design of the Lothal Temple grounds (x)
According to the artbook, Hidalgo and Chee shared a six-pages PDF of “ancient symbols” of the Jedi with the TLJ creative team, which informed “the shape of the library tree; the Jedi text covers and page designs; the temple’s celestial carving; and the reflecting pool mosaic.” I have no idea whether this was included - but both the TLJ symbols and this are informed by the same preexisting worldbuilding, so have it nonetheless.
But really, five pages out of six have space-themed illustrations, most of which seem to deal with lunations. Second and fifth page’s illustrations seem to represent the waxing and waning phases of a moon. The little one at the bottom of the second page has a Nebra sky disc feel to me, stylistically, but it clearly represents moon phases. The other, bigger illustration of the second pages features another moon phases pattern, inscribed in a circle divided in two (maybe more moon imagery, a full one and a half one). The pattern of thinner lines could be random but they could also be more star-charty stuff or zodiac thingy. It could be some kind of representation of astronomical observations with a more symbolic representation slapped on top. Third page is in the same vein, and fourth page seems to represent orbits? Or more phases stuff.
I’d be surprised if any of it was, you know, scientifically accurate in any way.
The final page has something different, a geometric pattern in red. A six pages sample isn’t enough to know if it stands out in the books’ illustrations, but it does compared to the other ones we have. It could be purely for the pretty. Or not. It’s too abstract and symbolic and generic for me to hazard a guess. (If I was to, it kinda looks like cells)
Okay so that’s it for the basic observations. Now comes the real brainwank. Starting with the context. [Insert rant about context being key]
TLJ confirmed the Jedi originated on Ahch-to, which answers one question, but opens others - if this happened before the advent of space travel, it would most likely mean the early Jedi were indigenous to Ahch-to, i.e. a species that evolved locally, a cultural entity whose religious beliefs would later spread. If the Jedi started post-space travel, then it’s still possible they formed in relative isolation, but more likely that they either started out on a multicultural substrate and/or were in contact with other cultural entities. Very different origin stories.
We know there is a mythological or historical Prime Jedi. Probably a foundational figure, actual historicity but heavily mythologized. Could be the first (or recognized as such) to have used the Force, or the first to have explored it systematically and have explicited its rules, could be Space Jesus gathering disciples or Space Buddha of the balanced life
And how do the books fit in that? Were they written on Ahch-to? Later, after the Jedi started expanding? Do they predate the Sith Schism? We know they were foundational texts for the Jedi Order so they most likely do. We also know Luke recovered them during his quest for Force knowledge and brought them to Ahch-to. He does not seem to have actually read them in depth, if we believe Ghost Yoda, so the lessons he gives Rey are unlikely to be very representative of the books’ contents. That’s pretty much it.
Looking at the scripts and the bindings, they’re varied enough that they could come from different geographical and historical contexts. But then again it’s possible the texts themselves come from the same source and that the books Luke recovered are translated copies.
Another question would be: what are these texts, actually? Religious treatises? Religious cosmology? Histories of the early Jedi and their philosophies? A life of the Prime Jedi? Observations on the nature of the Force? Etc.
So back to the concept art pages we do have - they represents six pages of a much longer text, so it’s a small sample, and there’s no way to know how representative of the full book it is, even less of the full corpus of works in the Tree Library.
But due to the illustrations, and because this is fiction so I can just wildly speculate, I think this specific book could be some kind of a cosmological treatise, hinting to the influence the observation of the rules behind the movements of astronomical bodies could have had on the formation of the early Jedi’s beliefs.
Bear with me. TL:DR, religious and scientific thought weren’t always (generally accepted as) different realms of knowledge and rationality. Historically, they have the same roots, observation of the natural world and its cycles - observation taught us what to expect from the world, allowed early cultural groups and societies to find order and predictability in it. The divine comes in to explain the rules behind these cycles, because knowing what to expect is one thing, but we also need to know why, to make sense of the rules.
See: a fuckton of myths, early astronomy and astronomy being the same thing, alchemy and chemistry, thunderstones, the atomists and the presocratics, lbr literally anything before the Advent of Modern (Culturally Western) Rationality
Back to the GFFA, because otherwise I’m going to keep rambling, and the Jedi. And most importantly, the Force, i.e. what’s behind the rules in the GFFA. The Jedi never had a God Is Dead moment, because why would they? The modern Jedi Order was certainly not anti-science, and their understanding of the Force and its role in the natural world probably changed over time, but they would never have had reason to reassess its existence.
I’m losing the point - the art in the concept art pages, imo, illustrate observations of natural cycles, definitely lunations, maybe other space stuff. Chances are the Jedi would not only see the Force as the root mechanism behind it all, but also, at least in their early days, believe these observable, external manifestations of the cosmic rules held deeper meaning relative to the nature of the Force.
As a final note because I think I’m mostly done with the bullet points, the lunations and the waxing and waning moons that make up most of the imagery in the concept art pages (and the fact that Ahch-to has two moons maybe but I’m not going there today) could point to that type of waxing-waning cycle being important in early Jedi thought, even mean that their view of the balance between light and dark followed that cycle.
